OF David DeJesus left Wednesday's game in the first inning with tightness in his right hip flexor. He struck out to lead off the game and did not come out in the bottom of the first, having been replaced by Joey Gathright. It is unclear when he began experiencing discomfort. He is tentatively listed as day-to-day. ... Now holding a one-game edge over the Tigers for fourth place in the American League Central, the Royals have a chance to finish out of the cellar for the first time since 2003. ... 3B Alex Gordon went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on Wednesday, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Since returning from a torn right quadriceps on September 14, he is 12-for-35 (.343) with two homers and seven RBI. ... After Wednesday's win, the Royals now have three sweeps over divisional opponents this season - all three against the Tigers. They opened the season with a sweep of the Tigers from March 31-April 3, then accomplished the feat in a May 13-15 series and for a third time this week.
